Saudi Arabia, Our New Home

We have not moved yet, but are preparing. I finally feel "ready". Moves are anything but pleasant, but with all of the unpleasantness also comes feelings of anticipation, excitement and "newness". With the advent of the New Year, it is a great time to "begin again", to start afresh in a great land, often misunderstood, with wonderful people to befriend. We will shortly bid adieu to our lovely Virginia, and head over land and sea to a faraway place out in the arid, parched land of Saudi Arabia.

DH has finally found his niche, his place of belonging and peace. The desert speaks to him, in so many ways. He finds beauty in the desolate, and hope in the abandoned and abused. The sprigs of green; growth, where there shouldn't be, give him pause. He is amazed at the tenacity of life. His "job" is to foster possibility in a people nearly forgotten, building up the earth as he goes, creating a thriving environment where people may rest and feel proud of the bounteous blessings they've been given.

Inshallah, he will succeed.

We are in awe at the blessings that have been ours, at this grand adventure we are undertaking, and the way our understanding of the world has been transformed time and again.

To new beginnings, in this new year of 2011.
